Nothing leaves your phone.
The short version. VR Race Engineer does not collect, store, transmit or sell any personal data. Everything the app does happens on your phone and on your home network. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party SDKs that phone home.
What the app reads
The app listens for the telemetry stream that Gran Turismo 7 broadcasts over your local Wi-Fi network from your PlayStation. That stream contains vehicle data only: speed, engine revs, gear, fuel level, lap times, position on track and similar. It contains nothing that identifies you.
To find your console, the app sends a small discovery packet to addresses on your local network. These packets never leave your home network.
What the app stores on your phone
The app keeps the following on the device, in the app's own private storage, so it can work better next time you race:
- Your settings: voice choice, which calls are switched on, and the last PlayStation address that worked.
- Car and track profiles the app learns from your laps: fuel burn, tyre wear, shift points and lap times.
- A short diagnostic log of recent sessions, used only for troubleshooting inside the app.
None of this is sent anywhere. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Permissions
Local Network. Required so the app can receive telemetry from your PlayStation. It is used for nothing else.
Background audio. The app keeps its audio session open so the engineer can keep talking while your phone is locked or in your pocket. No audio is recorded. The microphone is never used.
Voices
Spoken calls use the text-to-speech voices built into iOS. Speech is generated on the device by Apple's system voices and is subject to Apple's own privacy terms.
The waitlist on this website
If you join the waitlist on the home page, your email address is stored by Formspree and used only to tell you about the app. Email matt@stocura.com at any time to be removed.
Children
The app is rated 4+ and collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date. Because the app collects nothing, any change is likely to be a clarification rather than a change in practice.
